Rousseau, Heyde, Hassan and Bliey Earn USTFCCCA Regional Honors for Men’s Track and Field

NEW ORLEANS – The MIT men's track and field team earned multiple regional accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) during the 2024-2025 season, as Assistant Coach Derek Rousseau was named Regional Indoor and Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year, while Director of Track and Field and Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach, Julie Heyde was named East Region Indoor Coach of the Year and senior Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) was named regional indoor track athlete of the year and Jackson Bliey (Talleyville, Del. ) claimed East Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. 

In addition to the regional honors for Rousseau, Heyde, Hassan and Bliey, MIT earned 50 All-Region honors from the USTFCCCA across the indoor and outdoor seasons, given to the top-5 individuals in each event from each region, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.

Ziyad Hassan 

  • East Region - Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year
  • Recorded a pair of all-time NCAA DIII marks in mid-distance events: in the 800, his 1:48.63 PR ranks fourth; in the mile, his 4:01.13 PR ranks seventh. Finished third in the mile at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships.

Jackson Bliey

  • East Region - Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year
  • Won the high jump at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships
  • Cleared 2.18m (7-1¾) at the New England Division III Indoor Championships, the seventh best mark in NCAA DIII history

Julie Heyde

  • East Region - Men's Indoor Coach of the Year
  • Led MIT to a seventh-place team finish at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships
  • MIT had 10 athletes earn All-America honors

Derek Rousseau

  • East Region - Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year
    • Coached two Engineer jumpers to qualify for the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships, including national champion Bliey
    • Bliey won the New England DIII title with a jump of 2.18m (7-1¾) in becoming No. 7 on the all-time DIII indoor list
  • East Region - Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year
    • Coached the Engineers' jumpers to All-American honors at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships
    • His jumping crew scored all 12 of MIT's points at the meet, with Bliey winning the high jump national title and Anthony Meng earning First-Team All-American in the high jump
