NEWPORT, RI – MIT men's tennis graduate student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, RI) has been named the United States Tennis Association Rhode Island College Tennis Players of the Year for the 2024-25 school year. Kahler earned the Andy Chase Award as the state's top male college player for the third straight year.
The awards go to the top male and female college players who graduated from a Rhode Island secondary school and played for their school team. They do not necessarily need to play at an in-state college.
Kahler, a two-time ITA All-American and two-time NEWMAC Player of the Year, advanced to the second round of this year's NCAA Men's Single Championship, becoming the first Engineer since 2015-16 to qualify for the singles championship. He also advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Regional Championship in the fall.
Off the court, Kahler received his degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and was a four-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree and the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Men's Tennis Team Member of the year and a First Team Academic All-American in 2023-24.
