BABSON PARK, Mass. - In the NEWMAC Tournament Championship, the second seed and No. 38 nationally ranked MIT men's tennis team fell to top-seed and No. 12 nationally ranked Babson in a tightly contested 4-2 match on Sunday afternoon on the Babson Tennis Courts. This was the 18th time the two teams have met in the championship, with the Beavers earning the last two NEWMAC Titles.  

 
THE BASICS: 

• Score: Babson 4, MIT 2 
• Records: MIT (12-8 Overall); No. 12 Babson (18-4 Overall)  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Tyler Li and Hunter Liao fell to Alex Merson and Maxim Zlobinsky, 6-2 in court one and Grant Gallagher and Rushil Patel were defeated by Edward Wang and Sebastian Mendoza by a 6-4 margin to give the Beavers the doubles point.  Siddharth Marathe and Shrish Choudhary were trailing Max Lidman and Louis Bourn by a 5-4 score in the third court. 
• Wang made it a 2-0 lead for Babson with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Liao in No. 2 singles. 
• Marathe got MIT on the board with a two-set win in three singles over Zlobinsky. Marathe took set one 6-2, but the two needed a tie-break to determine the second set with Marathe earning the 7-6 (9-7) win. 
• Li tied the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win in No. 4 singles over Mendoza. 
• One singles gave Babson championship point as Merson took a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over Adam Sun, and Lidman gave the Beavers the win in six singles as he rallied to defeat Gallagher 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. 
• Choudhary and Sourish Gadhi were in the third set with Gadhi holding a 5-2 lead in the third when the match ended.
