MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The MIT men's volleyball team will join the newly formed NEWMAC Men's Volleyball conference, with play scheduled to begin in the 2026-27 academic year.
"We are excited about the recent announcement from the NEWMAC to include Men's Volleyball as the conference's 21st sport! said DAPER Department Head
Dr. G. Anthony Grant.
The Engineers will be joined in the conference by NEWMAC schools Emerson, Wheaton, Springfield while NYU, Vassar, and SUNY New Paltz will join as associate members to round out the seven-team league.
"This is not only a significant step forward for the NEWMAC to expand athletic opportunities for student-athletes across the conference, but it also ensures greater stability and enhances the competitive experience for our men's volleyball student-athletes into the future."Â
MIT has competed in the United Volleyball Conference since 2014 where the Engineers produced 21 UVC All-Conference Players, while qualifying for the conference tournament six times, advancing as far as the semifinals on two occasions.
The NEWMAC is currently finalizing schedules and the championship structure. With seven teams, the newly formed conference will have an automatic bid to the NCAA DIII Men's Volleyball Championship in the spring of 2027.
