Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 12 Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Win Over Gordon

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 12 MIT women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 road win over Gordon thanks in part to two first half goals from Natalie Barnouw.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 2, Gordon 0 
  • Records: MIT (1-0-0 Overall, 0-0-0 NEWMAC), Gordon (0-1, 0-0-0 CNE) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Maeve Sullivan sent a pass to the middle of the field where Barnouw raced down to the front of the cage and placed the ball into the corner of the goal at the 14:37 mark. 
  • Barnouw got her second score of the game when she took the corner kick from Sean Luk and put the shot above the hands of Gordon keeper Emily Bengtson at 23:46.  
  • The Engineers looked to extend their lead in the second half, but Ivy Daniel made six saves to keep MIT off the board. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The MIT defense allowed just one shot with Ava Muffoletto getting the shutout win. Maddy Noll played the second half for the Engineers. 
  • Barnouw recorded the fifth multi-goal game of her career. 
  • MIT had 25 shots in the contest with 11 on target. Bengtson made three saves in the first half.  

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT returns to the pitch on Tuesday, September 2 for a 7:00 PM road contest against Lesley. The Scots return to play on Wednesday, September 3 for a 7:00 PM game at Regis.
