Early First Half Goal Helps Give No. 6 MIT Women's Soccer a 3-0 Win over Johnson and Wales

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 6 MIT women's soccer team got a goal from JoJo Miller just 2:25 into the game that proved to be the game-winner as the Engineers earned their fourth shutout win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Johnson and Wales on Wednesday night at Roberts Field.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 3, Johnson and Wales 0 
  • Records: MIT (5-0-0 Overall, 0-0-0 NEWMAC), Johnson and Wales (1-2-1, 0-0-0 CNE) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • MIT jumped out to a quick lead just over two minutes into the game as Natalie Barnouw sent a corner kick to the front of the goal where JoJo Miller deflected it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. 
  • The Engineers had chances to add to their lead in the first half, but the JWU defense held them off until Barnouw converted on a free kick at 64:15. 
  • Lauren Won added an insurance goal for MIT when she corralled the ball off a deflection by a defender and put the ball into the back of the net at 71:11. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Miller recorded her first goal at MIT while Won tallied her second. 
  • With her three points on the night, Barnouw now has 94 in her career as she aims to become the seventh player in program history with 100 or more points. 
  • Ava Muffoletto and Maddy Noll combined for the shutout win, each making one save. Muffoletto got the win to improve to 4-0 on the season. 
  • Ava Vaughan started for Johnson and Wales and made six saves while Kyla Stamilio made two.  

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers are back on the road on Saturday, September 13 for a 1:00 PM match at Brandeis. The Wildcats return to action on Friday, September 12 for a 4:00 PM match at Nichols.
