Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 6 Women's Soccer Defeated by No. 19 Brandeis, 2-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – In a match-up of undefeated top-25 teams, it was No. 19 Brandeis that came away with a 2-1 win over the No. 6 MIT women's soccer team at Gordon Field on Saturday afternoon. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 1, Brandeis 2 
  • Records: No. 6 MIT (5-1-0 Overall, 0-0-0 NEWMAC), No. 19 Brandeis (5-0-1, 0-0-0 UAA) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Judges jumped out to a quick lead when Lacey Mbugua collected the rebound off a header from a corner and sent the ball to Grace Carman for the goal at 3:58. 
  • MIT responded with a free kick from Sean Luk that she sent into the box where Natalie Barnouw volleyed the ball into the back of the net from 10 yards out at 18:48. 
  • Arianna Doss and Luk had good looks in the early portions of the second half to give the Engineers the lead, but Brandeis goaltender Amaya Logan made both saves. 
  • Brandeis took the lead at 64:20 on a goal from Zareena Mann and held off the Engineer offense for the win.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Barnouw's goal is her fifth of the season and 37th of her career. She is five points shy of 100 in her career. Luk recorded her team-leading fifth assist of the season. 
  • The Engineers outshot Brandeis 19-8 and put eight on target to the four from Brandeis. 
  • Logan improved to 4-0-1 making seven saves. Ava Muffoletto started the game for MIT and while Maddy Noll took the loss making two saves in the second half and fell to 1-1.  

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 17 for a 7:00 PM match. The Judges are back on the field for a 7:00 PM match on Wednesday at Johnson & Wales.
