No. 7 Tufts Tops No. 23 Field Hockey, 2-0

MEDFORD, Mass. – A pair of second-half goals helped lift No. 7 Tufts University to a 2-0 win over No. 23 MIT in a non-conference field hockey game on Wednesday night at Ounjian Field. Maeve Zimmer amassed a career-high 16 saves for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Zimmer turned away nine shots in the first half, including seven during the opening frame.
  • MIT was awarded a penalty corner 23 seconds into the third quarter, but it could not put a shot on cage.
  • Tufts countered with eight shots, five on goal, and two penalty corners before ending the stalemate in the 40th minute. During a penalty corner, Riley Schmidt corralled the ball in a crowd and pushed it past Zimmer.
  • The Jumbos added their second goal during a penalty corner with 7:46 left to play as Katarina Villa redirected a feed from Hannah Murray at the far post.
  • The Engineers threatened to end the shutout with 2:28 to go, however, Bailey McIntyre's shot was blocked by a defender.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Zimmer's career-high mark of 16 saves surpassed the total of 11 which she set during the 2023 season against Tufts and Amherst College.
