Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 13 Women's Soccer Races Past Bridgewater St., 6-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – A hat trick from Maeve Sullivan helped propel the No. 13 MIT women's soccer team to a decisive 6-1 road victory over Bridgewater St. on Wednesday night. Natalie Barnouw also tallied her 100th career point in the win. 

This is the third time the Engineers have scored six or more goals in a match this season.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 6, Bridgewater St. 1 
  • Records: No. 13 MIT (6-1-0 Overall, 0-0-0 NEWMAC), Bridgewater St. (2-4-0 Overall, 2-0-0 MASCAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Sean Luk got MIT on the board first with a goal at 2:27 as she got by her defender and tucked the ball into the corner of the goal. 
  • The Bears responded quickly with a goal at 5:09 from Olivia Robarge who lifted the ball over the hands of Ava Muffoletto for the tying goal. 
  • Sullivan scored the next two goals to give MIT the 3-1 lead at the half. 
  • Madeline Seebeck sent a cross to the front of the goal where Natalie Barnouw rocketed the ball into the left corner of the cage at 61:33. 
  • A rebound off a Lauren Won shot found a waiting Skye Williams in front of the net where she got the ball and tapped the rebound into the goal to make it 5-1 MIT at 78:23. 
  • Sullivan completed her hat trick at 85:16, dribbling past her defender and putting a shot inside the near post to secure the 6-1 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Sullivan notched her first collegiate hat trick as she now has six goals in the season, tied for the team lead with Barnouw. 
  • With her three points on the day, Barnouw became the seventh player in program history with 100 career-points.  
  • Zoe Barton notched her first assist of the year, setting up Sullivan's second goal while Won also earned her first helper of the season. 
  • Luk scored her third goal of the season while Williams notched her second. 
  • Ava Muffoletto earned her fifth win of the season as she made three saves in the opening half. Cassidy Jennings played the second half, making one save.  
  • Logan Levesque made 16 saves for the Bears and fell to 2-3.   

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will open NEWMAC play on Saturday, September 20 with a noon start against Smith on Roberts Field. The Bears will host MCLA on Saturday at 4:30 PM.
