Sailing Caps Four Regatta Weekend; Qualifies for Women's ACC Finals

It was a busy weekend for the MIT sailing team as the Engineers were split up over four regattas. The weekend was highlighted by a fifth-place finish at the Smith Trophy, which MIT hosted, as well as an eighth-place finish at the Women's ACC Round 1A, which qualified the Engineers for the championship in October.  

WOMEN'S ACC ROUND 1A | St. Mary's City, Md. | 8th of 17 

  • MIT took eighth with 144 points. The Engineers finish in the top nine qualifies them for the Women's ACC Championship, which takes place October 11-12 in the Charles River.  
  • Brooke Barry, Christine Keedy Brown, and Sophia Woodbury led the 'A' Division boat to an eighth-place finish with 69 points. The team grabbed three top five finishes. 
  • Karya Basaraner, Woodbury, and Emma Wang steered the 'B' Division boat to a fifth-place finish with 75 points. They collected two fifth-place finishes.  

DANMARK TROPHY | New London, Conn. | 9th of 20 

  • MIT totaled 219 points over the two-day event to finish in ninth. 
  • Robert Ulmer and Ellie Pinto led the Engineers in the 'A' Division with 87 points to finish in fifth. They had four top three places including two victories. 
  • In the 'B' Division, Will Kulas and Elliott Chalcraft totaled 132 points to finish in 15th with four top 10 places. 

SMITH TROPHY | Cambridge, Mass. | 5th and 7th of 18 

  • The Engineers 2 boat led the way with a fifth-place finish, accumulating 92 total points. In the 'A' Division, Andy Yu '27 and Adrian Maciuca took fifth with 50 points with three top five finishes including one win. In the 'B' Division Conrad Straden and Emma Pautz finished fifth with 42 points with two top five finishes. 
  • The Engineers 1 boat finished in seventh with 107 points. Ryan Hoffman and Alice Colby finished in seventh in the 'A' Division with 56 points, highlighted by a win and two additional top five places. Lucas Escandon and Layla Bursor finished seventh in the 'B' Division with 51 points as they grabbed four top five finishes.

  • The Engineers took 10th overall with 57 total points. 
  • In the 'A' Division, MIT took ninth with 24 points with Kaitlyn Beaver and Diba Demir and in the 'B' Division the Engineers placed 11th with 33 points with Adé Larsen and Tamsin Horne

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will take to the water next weekend, Saturday, September 4-Sunday, September 5 to compete at the Stu Nelson Trophy and the Open AAC Round 1A.
