No. 5 Women's Swim and Dive Earns Win Over No. 8 Williams in Dual Meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 5 MIT women's swimming and diving team hosted No. 8 Williams and No. 3 NYU on Friday afternoon at the Zesiger Center Pool. The Engineers defeated the Ephs but fell to the Violets.  

Scores: 

  • NYU 161, MIT 139 
  • MIT 177, Williams 121

HOW IT HAPPENED:    

  • 400 Medley Relay: Sydney Smith, Sarah Bernard, Belise Swartwood, and Ella Roberson took first overall in 3:49.36. 
  • 1650 Free: Tiffany Kim finished third with a time of 17:12.06 followed by Christina Beggs in fifth with a time of 17:42.68. 
  • 200 Free: Jessica Crane took third in 1:52.38 and Swartwood finished sixth in 1:55.71. 
  • 100 Back: Smith earned the win with a time of 56.18. Chloe Xu finished eighth in 1:00.02. 
  • 100 Breast: Bernard came in third with a time of 1:05.93 and Daniela Petran came in fifth with a time of 1:06.85. 
  • 200 Fly: Mary Feliz finished with a time of 2:04.72 while Kathy Nie came in fifth (2:06.27). 
  • 50 Free: Roberson won the event in 23.33 and Annika Naveen came in fifth with a time of 24.24. 
  • 100 Free: Roberson got her second individual win of the day, swimming a time of 50.86. Lillian Poag finished fifth in 53.11. 
  • 200 Back: Crane finished in fifth (2:06.84) while Olivia Chen took ninth in 2:11.68. 
  • 200 Breast: Bernard swam a time of 2:22.33 for fourth with Petran coming in sixth in 2:26.37. 
  • 500 Free: Feliz finished second with a time of 5:01.58 and Kim finished sixth in 5:07.94. 
  • 100 Fly: Smith earned her second individual win with a time of 56.55 while Swartwood took third in 57.04. 
  • 400 IM: Crane finished third with a mark of 4:29.08 and Kathy Nie finished right behind her in 4:33.00. 
  • 200 Free Relay: Yang, Smith, Roberson and Naveen finished with a time of 1:33.88 for second. 
  • 1-Meter Dive: Fiora Beratahani took the top spot with a score of 289.70 followed by Logan Yee in third with a score of 279.60.
  • 3-Meter Dive: Beratahani completed the sweep with a score of 316.50 with Yee in second with a score of 300.60.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Both relays swam NCAA B Cut times 
  • Kim hit a B Cut in the 1650 while Feliz also notched one in the 500 and the 200 Fly. 
  • Roberson hit qualifying marks in both her wins in the sprints. 
  • Crane hit a B Cut in the 400 IM. 
  • Smith recorded a B Cut in the 100 back. 

UP NEXT:    

  • MIT is right back in the pool tomorrow, Saturday, January 24 for a 1:00 PM meet against No. 9 Tufts.
