WATERVILLE, Maine – MIT came within eight points with 3:39 remaining in regulation, but a three-pointer and a 6-of-8 performance at the free throw line helped Colby College secure a 63-48 victory in a non-conference women's basketball game on Monday night.
Mary Lobon produced eight points and six rebounds for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Olivia Joseph capped a back-and-forth opening quarter with a jumper with 14 seconds remaining to give MIT a 12-11 edge.
- Following a Colby layup, a layup by Riley O'Sullivan and two free throws from Ruth Lanouette created a 16-13 lead after two minutes elapsed. The Engineers maintained their small cushion as a jumper from Lobon moved the score to 20-17 at the 5:42 mark. The Mules drained a layup during their next possession and then sank another one with 4:15 on the clock to claim a 21-20 lead. The score remained unchanged until the hosts rattled off 10 unanswered points during the last 1:16 of the quarter.
- Colby saw its advantage grow to 41-24 midway through the third quarter. However, April Chan responded with a layup that kicked off a 10-4 run during the second half of the frame.
- Joseph buried a three pointer just five seconds into the fourth quarter, trimming the deficit to 45-37. The Mules countered with a 7-1 burst to reestablish their double-digit lead. Sparked by a trey from Rachael Zacks, MIT put together a 7-2 run which narrowed the gap to 54-46 with 3:39 left to play. Exactly 1:21 later Colby knocked down a three pointer, but Chan quickly made a layup. MIT wouldn't get any closer as the Mules wrapped up the game by going 6-of-8 at the charity stripe.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lanouette finished with a team-high 13 points, followed by eight from Joseph.
- Chan posted seven points and two assists while O'Sullivan totaled eight rebounds and six points.
- Zacks and Brianna Lebrun both added four rebounds.
