Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 5 Women's Soccer Races Past Springfield, 6-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The No. 5 MIT women's soccer team earned a 6-0 win over Springfield College on Saturday afternoon on Brock-Affleck Field to remain unbeaten in conference action.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: No. 5 MIT 6, Springfield 0 
  • Records: No. 5 MIT (11-2-1 Overall, 5-0-0 NEWMAC), Springfield (3-8-0 Overall, 2-3-0 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Arianna Doss took the ball away from a Pride defender and rifled a shot from the top of the box into the far lower corner of the net at the 5:05 mark of the first half. 
  • Emma Wang sent the ball over to Claire Zhang who's shot at the top of the box found the back of the net to put MIT up 2-0 just over 11 minutes into the half. 
  • The Engineers made it a three-goal lead as a corner kick went to Zhang who saw her shot saved by Gracie DeRing, however, Madelyn Popilek got the rebound and converted on the score at 23:24.  
  • After a shot from Tori Hiatt was blocked in front, Andrea Cummings collected the rebound and scored the fourth Engineer goal of the half at 42:20. 
  • Doss completed the brace just 31 seconds into the second half as she went into the box and put a shot cross cage for the score. 
  • Charley Bowles scored on a penalty kick with 35 seconds left to record the final score of the day. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Doss recorded her second two-goal game of the season. 
  • Zhang leads the team with nine goals while Bowles scored her first career goal. 
  • MIT allowed just two shots ,and neither were on target as Maddy Noll got her ninth win and fifth shutout. 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers return to the field on Wednesday, October 14 when they welcome Clark to Roberts Field for a 6:00 PM contest. The Pride will host Wheaton on the 14th at 7:00 PM.
