Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 5 Women's Soccer Blanks Coast Guard, 5-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 5 MIT women's soccer team earned its third-straight five goal win over a NEWMAC opponent as the Engineers got another two-goal performance from Claire Zhang in a 5-0 win over Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon on Roberts Field. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 5, Coast Guard 0 
  • Records: No. 5 MIT (9-1-1 Overall, 3-0-0 NEWMAC), Coast Guard (2-3-4 Overall, 0-1-2 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Zhang sent a ball into the front of the goal off a corner kick where Parker Yates was able to convert on the score at 31:13. 
  • Amara Ukomadu put a ball to the front of the goal for Zhang who one-touched it into the goal with 55 seconds remaining in the first half. 
  • Coming down the far side of the field, Lauren Won sent a cross into the middle where Madeline Seebeck got the front of her foot on the ball and put it past a diving Julia Little to increase the MIT lead to three at 62:01. 
  • After a red card to a Bears player, Zhang completed the brace with a goal off the free kick at 76:46. 
  • Eliza Young raced down the far side and sent a beautiful pass across the field to Arianna Chin who lifted the ball into the goal at 87:24 to give MIT the 5-0 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Zhang leads the team with eight goals and 18 points and has scored two goals in her last two matches. 
  • In six games this season, the Engineers have had at least one player score two or more goals, with Zhang accounting for three of those games. 
  • Seebeck notched her fourth goal of the season while Yates and Chin got their first collegiate goals. 
  • The Engineers have posted seven clean sheets this season. 
  • Maddy Noll got the start to earn her seventh win while Cassidy Jennings played the second half. Neither were forced to make a save. 

UP NEXT: 

  • It'll be a top-five matchup on Roberts Field tomorrow, Sunday, October 4 as the Engineers welcome No. 1 and defending National Champion WashU to Roberts Field for a 12:00 PM match. Coast Guard will host Springfield on Wednesday, October 7 at 6:00 PM.
