Field Hockey Defeats No. 9 Babson, 1-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Audrey Oh found the back of the cage midway through the third quarter and MIT withstood a fourth-quarter surge by No. 9 Babson College to hold on for a 1-0 victory in a NEWMAC field hockey game on Tuesday night. The victory was the first for the Engineers since they defeated the Beavers in overtime in the 2019 NEWMAC Championship and it snapped Babson's 80-game NEWMAC regular-season winning streak which dated back to 2015.

THE BASICS:

  • Records: MIT (6-5 Overall, 4-0 NEWMAC); No. 9 Babson (7-4 Overall, 3-1 NEWMAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Babson had the upper hand in the first quarter as it had a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners and recorded a trio of shots, but they were blocked by the MIT defense.

  • The Beavers controlled the action in the fourth quarter, as they had a 5-0 margin in shots and a 3-0 edge in penalty corners. The visitors had a chance to tie the game during a penalty corner with 15 seconds remaining, but they couldn't generate a shot.
