Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 5 Women's Soccer Earns 1-0 Road Win Over Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – In a matchup of the only 3-0 teams in NEWMAC play, the No. 5 MIT women's soccer team handed Salve Regina its first conference loss as the Engineers earned a 1-0 win on Wednesday afternoon on Reynolds Field. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 1, Salve Regina 0 
  • Records: No. 5 MIT (10-2-1 Overall, 4-0-0 NEWMAC), Salve Regina (6-2-3, 3-1-0 NEWMAC)  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • After her initial header was saved off a corner from Madeline Seebeck, Madelyn Popilek got her own rebound and powered a shot into the goal to give the Engineers the lead at 53:14. 
  • The Seahawks had three shots midway through the half as they looked to break even. Mya Ranieri had her shot saved by Maddy Noll and saw another hit off the crossbar. 
  • Though both teams had chances, neither could find the back of the net. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Engineers recorded their ninth clean sheet as the defense allowed six shots with three on target. 
  • Noll notched her fifth shutout, making three saves to improve to 8-1-1. 
  • Popilek has a career-high three goals this season. 

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT remains on the road as they will travel to Springfield for a 1:00 PM contest against the Pride on Saturday, October 10. Salve Regina will host WPI at noon on Saturday.
