CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 5 MIT women's swimming and diving team opened day one of the 2026 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships with a win in the 800 Free Relay to jump out to an early lead after the opening night of competition. 

STANDINGS:  

1. MIT – 70 Points 
2. Wheaton – 58 Points 
3. Coast Guard – 52 Points

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• 800 Free Relay: Belise Swartwood led off the event for the Engineers with a time of 1:52.73, Mary Feliz (1:51.00) and Lillian Poag (1:52.56) held the lead for MIT with Jessica Crane closing out the event with an anchor leg time of 1:52.22. MIT defeated second place Wheaton by almost eight seconds as the Engineers finished in 7:28.51 with the Lyons clocking in at 7:36.60.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• All four Engineer swimmers earned their first all-conference award in the event.  
• Swartwood is now a two-time NEWMAC All-Conference honoree while Feliz, Poag, and Crane earned their first.  
• The team hit an NCAA B Cut time and swam faster than last year's invited time.  

UP NEXT:    

• Tomorrow kicks off day two of the NEWMAC Swim and Dive Championships. Day two prelims will begin at 10:00 AM with the finals at 6:00 PM. Tomorrow's events will feature the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 1-Meter Diving and the 400 Medley Relay.
