No. 5 MIT Women's Swim and Dive Captures Five Wins; Increases Lead at NEWMAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 5 MIT women's swimming and diving team continued to build on its lead with five more victories, including another record, on day three of the 2026 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

STANDINGS:

MIT – 1079 Points
Coast Guard – 528 Points
Wellesley – 464 Points

HOW IT HAPPENED:

400 IM: Amberlynn Gong took the top spot in 4:27.54 followed by Christina Beggs with a time of 4:28.33 and Natalie Tang in third with a time of 4:28.33.
100 Fly: Sydney Smith took the top spot with a time of 54.49. Belise Swartwood came in second with a time of 56.07 followed by Kathy Nie in third and Lauren Levy in fourth.
200 Free: Jessica Crane earned the win with a time of 1:50.76. Mary Feliz took third, and Lillian Poag finished fourth.
100 Breast: Sarah Bernard took second in 1:03.32 followed by Kyra Cui and Daniela Petran.
100 Back: Sydney Smith took the win in 54.68 followed by Annika Naveen with a time of 56.57. Olivia Chen placed fourth.
200 Medley Relay: The team of Beggs, Bernard, Naveen and Smith fell behind early to the team from Wellesley, however the team picked up time and Smith was able to touch the wall in first with a time of 1:42.54 while the Blue finished in 1:43.30.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Gong, Beggs and Tang all swam B Cut times. Gong now has the 10th fastest time in program history
Smith set a new meet record, breaking her previous record which she set in the prelims. Both her and Swartwood swam faster than last year's invited times. Smit now third fastest time in DIII.
Crane's time in the 200 free was faster than last year's invited time, and Feliz also hit a B Cut time. Crane bested her previous personal best mark, which ranks sixth in program history.
Bernard finished as the runner-up in the 100 breast after winning the event last year. Her time is faster than last year's invited time.
Smith breaks Naveen's two-year streak in the 100 back. Smith's time is faster than last year's invited time while Naveen hit a B Cut. Smith now has the fifth fastest time in DIII.
MIT's 200 Medley Relay team swam faster than last year's invited time.

UP NEXT:

The NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships will conclude tomorrow with the finals at 10:00 AM at the Zesiger Center Pool. Events will be the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 3-Meter Dive, and the 400 Free Relay.
