No. 5 Women's Swim and Dive Wins 15th Straight NEWMAC Swim and Dive Crown

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 5 MIT women's swimming and diving team won its 15th straight NEWMAC Swim and Dive Championship, winning 19 of 20 events during the four-day meet.  

STANDINGS:  

  1. MIT – 1632.5 
  2. Coast Guard – 750 
  3. Wellesley – 651.5 

HOW IT HAPPENED:    

  • 200 Back: Olivia Chen, Chloe Xu, and Jessica Crane took three of the top-five spots for MIT. Chen led the way with her win followed by Xu in second and Crane in fourth. Chen finished in 2:04.91 while Xu posted a time of 2:05.66 and Crane a 2:05.98. 
  • 100 Free: The Engineers swept the top-three spots led by Sydney Smith who took the victory in 50.42. Lillian Poag followed with a time of 51.63 with Annika Naveen in third with a time of 52.25. 
  • 200 Breast: Sarah Bernard earned the victory with a time of 2:16.90 followed by Daniela Petran in second with a time of 2:20.12. 
  • 200 Fly: MIT swept the top-five slots led by Belise Swartwood who finished in 2:03.34. Mary Feliz came in second followed by Amberlynn Gong, Natalie Tang and Kathy Nie
  • 3-Meter Dive: Fiora Beratahani won the event with a score of 499.45, leading the way for MIT which swept the top-three spots. Logan Yee followed with a score of 495.30 with Emma Scott coming in third with a score of 474.35. 
  • 1650 Free: Tiffany Kim took the win with a time of 17:24.23, besting Christina Beggs who finished second with a time of 17:46.24.  
  • 400 Free Relay: Poag, Naveen, Feliz and Smith ended the meet for the Engineers with an almost eight second win over second-place Babson. The Engineers clocked in with a time of 3:24.04. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The win in the mile was the first for MIT since 2024.  
  • Chen was the runner-up in the 200 Back last year. 
  • Smith's free time was faster than last year's invited time as she now ranks seventh in DIII. 
  • Bernard clocked in with a time faster than last year's invited time as she defended her title from last year. 
  • Swartwood won her second-straight title as she swam faster than last year's invited time while Feliz, Gong and Tang all hit B Cut times. 
  • The Engineers won all five relays at the event. 
  • MIT's winning time in the 400 Free Relay was faster than last year's invited time and is the 11th fastest in Division III. 

UP NEXT:    

  • Qualified divers will head to Connecticut College for the NCAA Diving Regionals which will run from Friday, February 27 – Saturday, February 28. The NCAA swimming selections will be announced on Thursday, February 26 on NCAA.com.
