MARLBOROUGH, Mass – Evan Wong of the MIT men's swim and dive team was named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year following his performance in the Engineers' 17th-straight and 20th overall NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship. MIT has had the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in four straight years.
Wong earned NEWMAC Rookie of the Year after winning the 200 Freestyle, in an NCAA B Cut time of 1:37.98, and the 500 Freestyle, which he also swam in a B-Cut time of 4:29.55. He was also a member of the winning 400 Freestyle relay and the 800 Freestyle relay.
MIT junior Jason Wang was awarded the Laurels of Academic Excellence award, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at the NEWMAC Championship. Wang boasts a 4.0 GPA in Biological Engineering and Management.
