Rifle Competes in Beanpot, Falls to Akron

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following an almost three-month hiatus, the MIT rifle team returned to action by competing in the two-day Beanpot in addition to a dual match with the University of Akron this past weekend. The Engineers placed second in the Beanpot behind Akron and were defeated by the Zips, 4,698-4,414, on Sunday. Eleanor Yang had the top aggregate score for MIT in both competitions as she shot a 1,140 during the Beanpot and a 1,139 versus Akron.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Beanpot (SMALLBORE):
  • Akron won the event with a score of 2,314, followed by URI (2,174), MIT (2,157), Norwich (2,149), and Coast Guard (2,078).
  • Akron took the top sevens spots while Yang was the Engineers' top finisher in ninth place with a total of 559. Danny Antonelli ranked 14th with a season-best mark of 545 as William Knowlton was right behind him with 540 points.
  • Avaneesh Pal was 23rd (513), Helena Dimiati was 27th (491), Jayden Lin was 28th (488), and Perry Han was 30th (454).
HOW IT HAPPENED – Beanpot (AIR RIFLE):
  • Akron took the victory with a total of 2,365, followed by MIT (2,262), Coast Guard (2,212), URI (2,211), and Norwich (2,209)
  • Akron secured the first six spots with Yang taking seventh as she shot a 581.
  • Knowlton set a new personal best as his tally of 572 resulted in a 10th place finish.
  • Jialin Xu placed 15th with a score of 563, followed by Antonelli in 20th place (546), Pal in 25th place (526), Dimiati in 26th place (519), Lin in 27th place (514), and Spencer Sindhusen in 30th place (456).
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Akron (SMALLBORE):
  • Akron defeated MIT, 2,330-2,163.
  • Yang led the way for the Engineers as her total of 556 ranked ninth.
  • Knowlton (538), Pal (536), Antonelli (533), and Dimiati (497) claimed the next four spots in the standings.
  • Pal's score resulted in a new personal best.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Akron (AIR RIFLE):
  • Akron took the victory, 2,368 – 2,251.
  • The Zips claimed eight of the top nine slots as Yang placed seventh with a mark of 583.
  • Antonelli ranked 10th (567), followed by Knowlton (566), Xu (565), Pal (536), and Dimiati (507).
  • Antonelli was two points shy of tying his personal best and Pal was one point off equaling his career best mark.
