CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- The MIT women's openweight crew varsity eight earned gold in the varsity eight B final to close out the team's appearance at the two-day Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River on Sunday.  

VARSITY EIGHT (V8+):

  • Saturday - Heat 5: 2nd of 6 (06:43.09) - Advanced to Semifinal 1 
  • Sunday - Semifinal 1: 3rd of 6 (07:17.09) - Advanced to Final 2  
  • Sunday - Final 2: 1st of 6 (06:54.62) - GOLD 
  • The Engineers finished 03.70 seconds ahead of Jacksonville University, while also defeating Villanova, UConn, Colgate and UAlbany in the second final. The varsity eight finished second in the team's heat on Saturday, advancing to the first semifinal on Sunday, where the Engineers earned a third-place finish. The team did not advance to the top level final but earned a spot in the second final, where the Engineers took home the title.

VARSITY FOUR (V4+):

  • Saturday - Heat 4: 4th of 5 (08:25.86) - Advanced to Semifinal 3 
  • Sunday - Semifinal 3: 6th of 6 (08:15.55) - Advanced to Final 3 
  • Sunday - Final 3: 5th of 6 (08:48.00) 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• MIT earned 39 medals on the weekend at the Knecht Cup Regatta, second behind Fordham's 42. The women's lightweight and openweight programs combined for 21, while the men's lightweight program won 18 for the Engineers.  

UP NEXT: 

• MIT will race next Saturday, April 18, on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. The Engineers will go head-to-head with Boston College for the BC/MIT Cup and will also race against Holy Corss, Sacred Heart, UConn and UMass.
