WORCESTER, Mass. -- The MIT men's heavyweight crew varsity eight, second varsity eight and third varsity four all raced in Grand Finals on Saturday at the New England Rowing Championships, with the third varsity four winning goal. The Engineers' varsity eight finished one spot off the podium in fourth.
VARSITY EIGHT (V8+):
- Results: 4th of 6 (5:53.743)
- Lineup: C. Arnav Aggarwal; 8. Nielsen Euvrard; 7. James Cabot; 6. Sam Dowd; 5. August Berne; 4. Declan King; 3. Gunnar Kohler; 2. Jonathan Wang; 1. Drake Elliott
- MIT finished well ahead of second place Tufts in its opening heat, winning the third morning heat in 6:14.812. Tufts followed in 6:20.344 with WPI in third at 6:25.826. In the grand final, MIT was just over a second off the podium, finishing fourth in 5:53.743. Williams was third in 5:52.277, while Wesleyan was second in 5:51.765 and Trinity claimed the title in 5:49.483.
SECOND VARSITY EIGHT (2V8+):
- Results: 5th of 6 (6:17.631)
- Lineup: C. Maddie Taylor; 8. Rainer Arendt; 7. Harrison Scarrow; 6. Matt Tyburski; 5. Fin Duffy; 4. Sam Warman; 3. Calvin Hrycay; 2. Luke Pittaro; 1. Paddy Garman
- MIT made its way to the grand final with a runner-up finish in the second of the three morning heats. MIT finished in6:09.791 to advance. Williams won the heat in 6:06.295 as the two crews were well out in front of boats from Coast Guard and Boston College. In the Grand Final, MIT finished fifth out of six teams in 6:17.631. MIT was just under seven seconds back of Williams in fourth (6:10.737).
THIRD VARSITY FOUR (3V4+):
- Results: 1st of 7 (7:48.038) - GOLD
- Lineup: C. Shoshana Urman; 4. Matt Curtis; 3. Joseph Ortega; 2. Felix Poydar; 1. Thomas Stowe
- MIT raced away from the field to win gold in the third varsity four grand final in 7:48.038. It was a no-contest victory for MIT with Wesleyan finishing second well back in 8:05.734.
