GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- The MIT men's heavyweight crew varsity eight finished sixth in the team's opening heat on Friday at the IRA National Championship regatta on Lake Natoma. The Engineers will now race in the CD Semifinal on Saturday, where the top three finishers will advance to Sunday's C Final. 

VARSITY EIGHT (V8+): 

• Lineup: C. Arnav Aggarwal; 8. Nielsen Euvrard; 7. James Cabot; 6. Sam Dowd; 5. Gunnar Kohler; 4. Declan King; 3. August Berne; 2. Jonathan Wang; 1. Drake Elliott 
• Results: 6th of 6 (06:09.210) - Advanced to Mens Collegiate Varsity 8+: Semifinal CD 
• MIT faced Harvard, Northeastern, Boston University and Holy Cross in an opening heat with multiple local ties. Wisconsin also featured in the heat as the Badgers finished fourth (05:50.730). Harvard led throughout, finishing in 05:42.410, a length ahead of Northeastern in second (05:45.270). BU took third (05:48.390) to earn the final spot in the AB Semifinal. Holy Cross took fifth (05:57.230) and MIT was sixth (06:09.210).

• MIT returns to action at the IRA National Championship on Saturday, May 30. The Engineers will race in the Mens Collegiate Varsity 8+ CD Semifinal at 12:44 PM EDT/9:44 AM local time.
