Men’s Heavyweight Crew Varsity Eight Finishes Sixth in CD Semifinal at IRA National Championship

GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- The MIT men's heavyweight crew varsity eight was sixth in the CD Semifinal on Saturday at the IRA National Championship regatta on Lake Natoma. With the result, MIT will conclude its trip to the IRA National Championship on Sunday in the Varsity Eight D Final.

Navy, Columbia, and Wisconsin advanced to the C Final with top three finishes in the semifinal. The Mids (05:52.290) led throughout the race, holding a narrow advantage on Columbia (05:54.330) through the 1500-meter mark before winning by just over two seconds. Wisconsin (05:56.400) held off an early challenge from fourth-place Drexel (05:59.280) but had a comfortable margin at the line. Fifth-place Oregon State (06:05.260) and sixth-place MIT (06:07.390) could not recover from slow starts while Oregon State moved away from MIT over the final 500 meters.
