Men’s Heavyweight Crew Varsity Eight Finishes Fifth in D Final to Conclude IRA National Championship

GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- The MIT men's heavyweight crew varsity eight finished fifth in the Men's Collegiate Varsity Eight D Final to conclude the team's trip to the 2026 IRA National Championship regatta on Lake Natoma. MIT finished 23rd overall at the IRA National Championship.

Temple held off local rival La Salle to win by just 00.017 seconds. Temple finished in 05:56.701, while La Salle had a time of 05:56.718. Drexel made it a 1-2-3 Philadelphia sweep with a time of 05:59.718. Oregon State was fourth (06:03.063) followed by MIT (06:04.706) and UC San Diego (06:04.778).
The race marked MIT's final under the guidance of Tony Kilbridge, who concludes a 20-year tenure as the H.W. McCurdy '22 Director of Rowing and men's varsity heavyweight coach. He announced his retirement following the 2025–26 academic year.
