LEXINGTON, Ky. – The MIT women's volleyball team collected its 20th consecutive American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. In addition, the Engineers earned a spot on the Academic Honor Roll for the eighth year in a row by virtue of ranking in the top 20 percent of Division III team GPAs.
 
Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, the AVCA Team Academic Award honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 mark on a 5.0 scale.
 
MIT placed a league-high 10 student-athletes on the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team while Sophia Song received the NEWMAC Laurels of Academic Excellence, an award that honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing in the NEWMAC Championship. Additional academic accolades were earned by Daphne Gavros, Ali Gibbs, and Kayleigh May who were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team while May was voted to the CSC Academic All-America Second Team.
 
On the court, the Engineers captured their fourth NEWMAC title in five years (10th overall) and advanced to the regional final of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship for the fifth year in a row.
