Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Lifts No. 8 Women's Soccer to 2-1 Road Win at Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – With the game tied at one with just over a minute remaining, Andrea Cummings found the back of the net to give the No. 8 MIT women's soccer team a 2-1 win over Brandeis on Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 2, Brandeis 1 
  • Records: MIT (4-0-1 Overall), Brandeis (2-2-0 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Judges struck first as Grace Carman raced into the box to get the ball which had deflected off the hands of Cassidy Jennings and put the shot into the far corner of the net at 16:29. 
  • Lauren Won got by her defenders and struck a pass through the box where Chloe Dai was waiting in the corner and tapped the ball with the side of her foot into the goal to tie the game at the 32:40 mark. 
  • Amaya Logan made two stops on shots by Ayla Sumer and Skye Williams early into the second half to keep the game tied at one. 
  • Arianna Doss toed the sideline on the side of the net and sent a pass in front to Cummings who got through the Brandeis defense and put a strike past Logan to secure the win for MIT at 88:20. 
  • Brandeis had one last push with a corner and a shot from Valerie Bunde but could not tie the match. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • MIT held Brandeis to just four total shots. 
  • Jennings improves to 2-0 on the season. 
  • Cummings got her fourth goal and second game-winner of the season. 
  • Dai scored her first collegiate goal. 
  • This is the third-consecutive year in which the two teams have played a 2-1 match with MIT winning two of the three.

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT returns home to Roberts Field for a 4:00 PM non-conference match against Bridgewater St.  The Judges will host Wellesley on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
