CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A goal midway through the first half by Ayla Sumer proved to be the game-winner as the No. 5 MIT women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win on Roberts Field in a non-conference tilt against Mary Hardin-Baylor. 
 
THE BASICS: 

• Score: MIT 2, Mary Hardin-Baylor 0 
• Records: MIT (6-0-1 Overall), Mary Hardin-Baylor (1-3-2 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Sumer raced down the far side of the field and past the Cru defense before powering a shot right outside the box into the goal at 15:54. 
• Lauren Won appeared to double the MIT lead later in the half, but the goal was called off due to offside. Overall, MIT had five shots on goal in the half with Aubrey Tipton making three saves.  
• A corner kick from Skye Williams found the head of Madeline Seebeck in the second half, but Seebeck's goal was taken off the board due to an MIT foul. Just over five minutes later, Seebeck got her goal, getting past the defense and tucking a shot into the corner of the net at 86:53. 
• The MIT defense was staunch yet again, surrendering just one total shot which came off the foot of Gracie Ruthven in the first half. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• This was the first meeting between the schools. 
• MIT recorded its sixth clean sheet of the season. The Engineers matched the single-season school record with 20 shutouts last year. 
• Sumer scored her first goal of the season, while Seebeck netted her third. It it the first game-winning goal of Sumer's career. 
• Maddy Noll did not have to make a save in the match and is now 4-0-1 on the season. 
• Tipton made eight saves in the match. 

UP NEXT: 

• MIT will open NEWMAC play on Saturday, September 19 with a 2:00 PM road contest at Smith. The Cru will take on Brandeis on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
