MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Gary Jiang led the way for the MIT men's tennis team at the ITA New England Regionals, advancing to the semifinals as the Engineers wrapped up their fall season over the weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED - SINGLES:

Tyler Li took on Saje Menon of Babson in the Round of 64 and earned a three-set win, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. Li then matched up against Cameron Zia of Bowdoin in the Round of 32 and fell in straight sets, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Gary Jiang faced Jack Reis of Amherst and earned a three-set victory by a 4-6. 6-1, 10-6 score. In the round of 32 Jiang took on Tair Sarmanov of Bates and won in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5, In the Round of 16 he faced Lucas Velasco of Babson and after dropping the first set 5-7, rallied to win the next two, 7-5, 6-2. Jiang took on Anton Lim of Williams in the quarters and advanced to the semifinals with a 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-4 win. In the semifinals he faced Noah Lewis of Middlebury where he fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Hunter Liao took on Rocco Rognier of Bates and after dropping the first set 4-6, rallied to win the next two, 6-1, 10-8. He then defeated Angelo Guzman of Springfield, 6-3, 6-0. In the Round of 16 he took on Maxim Zlobinsky of Babson and earned a straight-set win, 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinals he faced Simon Catanzaro of Bowdoin and dropped a tough three set match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
B Draw:
- Kaden Chen earned a bye into the round of 32 and faced Nikky Kondamuri of Middlebury where he dropped an 8-7 (8-6) match.
- Grant Gallagher dropped an 8-2 match to Nicky Hermes of Wesleyan in the Round of 64.
HOW IT HAPPENED – DOUBLES:
- Gallagher and Liao earned a bye into the round of 32 and earned an 8-4 win over Nicky Herems and Max Kauffmann of Wesleyan. In the Round of 16, they took on Antonio Lee and Eli Linn of Colby and dropped a tough 8-7 (7-3) match.
- Jiang and Chen faced Jack Reis and Ronald Gualario of Amherst in the opening round and came away with an 8-5 win. They followed that with a thrilling 8-7 (9-7) win over William Luke and Adam Sun of Williams. The pair then took on the second-ranked team of Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and Nico Tremblay of Tufts and fell by an 8-6 score.
