CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT used a 17-hit attack, one that included four home runs, to muscle its way past Clark University, 19-5, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball game this afternoon. Freshman Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) tied a school record with three of the four home runs and drove in seven runs while senior Parker Tew (Chapel Hill, N.C.) hit a grand slam and drove in six for the Engineers.

Filiere started the fireworks for MIT (14-7, 10-3 NEWMAC) in the first inning, following a leadoff walk to sophomore John Drago (Peoria, Ariz.) with his first round tripper of the day to make it 2-0. In the second, a pair of walks and a sacrifice set up freshman Garrett Greenwood (Edmond, Ariz.) for an RBI single that made it 3-0. Another walk then loaded the bases and with two down Tew lofted a ball over the wall in left for a 7-0 lead.

Senior K.J. Parent (Knoxville, Tenn.) started for MIT and picked up the win with six innings of work on the mound. He gave up seven hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out six without issuing a walk. Clark (8-12, 5-5 NEWMAC) got to him for a pair of runs in the third when junior James Conway (Newburyport, Mass.) and senior Daniel Lima (Manchester, Conn.) led off the inning with a double and single. With one down the pair pulled a double steal to plate one run, with freshman Kyle Bonicki (Waterbury, Conn.) doubling home the second run for the Cougars. 

MIT answered with a pair of runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Senior Karl Sorensen (Blacksburg, Va.) drove in one run in the third with a squeeze bunt, with junior Nate Rodman (Corvallis, Ore.) driving in a run in the fourth for the Engineers. In the fifth it was Filiere's second home run that accounted for the runs, putting MIT up 13-3.

Filiere wound up completing the scoring on the day for MIT, swatting a three-run shot that capped a four-run eighth inning for the Engineers. Clark added a pair of runs in the ninth, getting one on an RBI groundout by junior Brett O'Keefe (Brighton, Mass.). 

Junior Michael Wymer (Flower Mound, Texas) tossed 1.2 innings out of the bullpen for MIT, striking out three and allowing a pair of hits. Freshman Joshua Dobratz (Southington, Conn.) started and took the loss for Clark, surrendering eight hits and 11 runs, 10 earned, over four innings.

Filiere ended his day with a 5-for-6 line with seven RBI and five runs scored, collecting a double to go with his three home runs. Tew drove in his six runs on a pair of hits, with Rodman and Greenwood also collecting two hits apiece. Senior Daniel Lima (Manchester, Conn.) and freshman Teddy Downing (Cambridge, Mass.) each had a pair of hits to lead Clark, with Lima scoring three times for the Cougars.

MIT will be back in action tomorrow, playing at Worcester State University at 3:30 p.m. Next up for Clark will be the first of a three-game NEWMAC series with Coast Guard, with the first game taking place on Friday at Coast Guard at 3:30 p.m.
