Women's Tennis Falls to Williams, 5-1, in NCAA Regional Final

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The MIT women's tennis team saw its season come to an end in the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament when it was defeated by host Williams College, 5-1, on Sunday. Following the loss, the Engineers' finished the year with a record of 13-8.

The Ephs came away with all three points from doubles action. In the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, sophomore Dora Tzeng (Fremont, Calif.) and freshman Kelly Zhu (Houston, Texas) along with juniors Wendi Kong (Cupertino, Calif.) and Krystal Lai (Irvine, Calif.) both fell by 8-1 margins. At the No. 1 position, junior Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) and sophomore Sonya Das (Arden Mills, Minn.) battled Juli Raventos and Linda Shin for the final point, but they were edged out, 9-7.

Tzeng put MIT on the board as she defeated Mia Gancayco, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 2 singles slot. Williams then took a 4-1 lead in the match when Shin topped Zhu, 7-5, 6-1, in the third spot. The next point was up for grabs as both the No. 1 and No. 4 pairings were extended to a third set. However the Ephs clinched the match with Cancio's 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Das in the fourth position, finishing while Kohrs was leading, 2-6, 7-5, 5-3 versus Raventos.
