THE BASICS:

- Score: Springfield College 15, MIT 10

- The Lead: Springfield College outscored MIT, 7-2, in the fourth quarter to record a 15-10 win in the NEWMAC men's lacrosse regular-season finale for both squads on Saturday. Junior Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.) paced the Engineers with four goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After conceding the opening goal of the game, freshman Jack Strachan (Moresville, N.C.) found Turley for his first marker and then connected on a pass by senior Michael Traub (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) with 10:41 on the clock. Springfield countered with four straight goals to claim a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

- Both squads scored twice during the first 6:35 of the second stanza before a defensive battle ensued. Turley ended the stalemate with a solo effort that trimmed the deficit to 7-5 heading into halftime.

- Senior Harris Stolzenberg (Weston, Fla.) was a factor in all three of MIT's third-quarter goals which put the visitors ahead, 8-7, with 5:14 on the clock. After earning an assist on Traub's goal he was the recipient of a pass from Traub and then buried a solo effort. The lead was short lived, however, as the Pride recorded the equalizer with just over a minute remaining.

- Springfield carried the momentum into the final frame as it rattled off four unanswered goals to go up, 12-8, at the 9:56 mark. Turley notched his fourth goal of the game exactly 1:13 later but the Pride increased its cushion courtesy of a man-up strike with 6:39 left to play. Following some back-and-forth play, a man-up goal by Traub narrowed the gap to 13-10 with 2:32 on the clock. This was as close as it would get as Springfield scored twice down the stretch.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Stolzenberg finished with two goals and three assists while Traub posted two goals and two assists. Strachan chipped in two goals and one assist as junior David Klee (East Greenbush, N.Y.) produced five groundballs and three caused turnovers. Freshmen Jameson Kief (Plantsville, Conn.) and Dylan Marlborough (Cutchogue, N.Y.) both collected five groundballs while Marlborough won 10 of his faceoff attempts. In net, sophomore goalie Alexander Lynch (Roswell, Ga.) made eight saves.

- Springfield led the way in shots (46-26), groundballs (32-24), and faceoffs (18-11).
