Cambridge, Mass. (October 14) – The MIT softball team has announced eight new additions to the team as head coach
Brooke Kalman announced the Class of 2025 today.
The incoming class of Engineers includes:
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.), Dana Bell (Bensalem. Pa.), Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif), Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.), Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Kristen Lee (Freehold, N.J.), Maurielle Noto (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and
Rebecca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas).
Kalman is very excited for this group of first-years to join the team, saying, "We are so excited to welcome these eight terrific young women into our program! They truly buy into our blue-collar work ethic mentality and never settle attitude. They are hungry to compete, they want to win, and they want to be part of a championship program! I am confident that with the addition of these eight athletes are program will pick up right where we left off in 2019! I can't wait to see all that they accomplish both on and off the diamond!"
Kennedy Adkison | San Jose, Calif.| St. Francis High School | Astronautical/Aeronautical Engineering
Adkison was named a team captain in both 2020 and 2021, the Saint Francis High School Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2019 and 2021, a West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) All-League in 2019, and a WCAL 2nd All-League in 2018. She was also Central Coast Section (CCS) All-Team Honorable Mention in 2018. Her team went a perfect 26-0 in 2021 and were ranked number one in the state and ninth nationally. They were the 2021 CCS Open Division Champions as well as the WCAL Champions. Off the field she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of the National Honor Society, the World Language Honors Society and the California Scholarship Federation. Adkison was also very active in the community as she taught Sunday School, volunteered at churches and retirement homes, and was a classroom aid for mentally and physically impaired children. She was also a freshman mentor, immersion Leader, Senior Retreat Leader, and Co-President for Fellowship of Athletes.
Dana Bell | Bensalem, Pa. | Archbishop Ryan | Aerospace Engineering
Bell earned the Archbishop Ryan Ragdoll Award (Softball) and was named the Northeast Times Scholar Athlete of the Year, while capping her final season by being named the Philadelphia Catholic League First Team All-Catholic, the Philadelphia Catholic League Defensive Player of the Year the Philadelphia Catholic League MVP, and a Philadelphia Catholic League Champion. In the classroom Bell was a member of the National Honor Society, Freshman Representative of Student Council, Athletes Helping Athletes, Varsity Mathletes, and the Future Engineers Club.
Mackenzie Bivin |San Diego, Calif. | Rancho Bernardo High School | Undecided
Bivin was a First Team All-CIF SDS, First Team All-Palomar League and the Rancho Bernardo High School Scholar Athlete, and her team was the CIF SDS Div. 1 Runner-Up during her senior season. Off the diamond, she was a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Finalist. She also took part in RB Digital Media, Class Council, Peer Counseling, and was a Volunteer at Feeding San Diego.
Mikayla Cable | Valrico, Fla. | Bloomingdale Senior High School | Chemical Engineering
In 2021 Cable was named First Team All-Western Conference for softball and was a team captain. She also earned varsity letters in soccer and field hockey. Off the field Cable was a member of the National Society, National English Honors society, National Spanish Honors Society, National Science Honors Society and the Math Honors Society.
Katie Katsuyama | Manhattan Beach, Calif. | Mira Costa High School | Bioengineering
Katsuyama was named the Southern Ca. Female Athlete of the Week, was a two-time First Team All-Bay League, Second Team All-Area, and the 2018 Varsity Rookie of the Year. Off the field she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was the Mathematics Department Award Winner, and the Tulane University Book Award winner. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation Life Member, and the Vice President of Support Our Students Club.
Kristen Lee | Freehold, N.J. | Freehold Township | Business Analytics
In her senior year, Lee was a team captain and was named a Shore Conference Senior All Star and the team was the Shore Conference A-North Undefeated Champions. Off the field she was a part of the National Honors Society, the National Latin Honors Society, and the National Math Honors Society. Off the diamond she was an Executive Board Member at Large for National Honors Society, a Science League member, a Latin Junior Classical League member, a member of the Varsity Club, a member of the Red Cross Club, and a member of Seeds of Africa Club. She was also a tutor and had a two-year summer internship with a NYC Financial Market Analysis firm. She also co-founded GETREPS Non-Profit Organization, and Hearts for Healthcare Heroes.
Maurielle Noto | Scottsdale, Ariz. | Chaparral High School | Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering
Noto earned the Arizona Sports 360 Softball #1 GPA for Softball and was All Region Second Team. Off the field she graduated Summa Cum Laude, and was a member of the National Honor Society and president of the Calculus Club. She was also the VP of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Unitown Vice President, and a member of the Chaparral Improv.
Rebecca O'Connor | San Antonio, Texas | O'Connor High School | Brain and Coognitive Science
On the diamond O'Connor was a two-time First-Team All-District (2018, 2021) and second team All-District in 2019. She was named to the First-Team Academic All-District team all four years and was named to the Academic All-State Elite Team in 2021. Off the diamond she was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Spanish National Honor Society. O'Connor also did research at UT Health, shadowing with an orthopedic surgeon, while also reading to elementary school students, and took part in the Northside Leadership Summit. She was also awarded the O Award for Academic Excellence (four years), a four-time Honor roll member and the Gloria Nelson Scholarship.
