Sailing Wins Atlantic Coast Tournament

WOMEN'S ATLANTIC COAST TOURNAMENT | CAMBRIDGE, Ma. (1st of 16, 132 points)
 
- The Engineers captured the Atlantic Coast Tournament using two first-year skippers and one first year, one sophomore, and one senior crew.
 
- A Division (2nd of 16, 68 points): First-years Brooke Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and Mercedes Escandon (Brick, N.J.) ran excellent races throughout the weekend to finish second to a strong South Florida team. They posted nine top-three finishes with four wins while finishing third, first, second and first in their last four races.
 
- B Division (2nd of 16, 64 points): The Engineers team of first-year Lucy Brock (Austin, Texas), sophomore Sophie Yang (Wynnewood, Pa.) and senior Zoe Fisher (River Forest, Ill.) put together a solid two days of racing as they combined for nine top-three finishes with three victories.

WOMEN'S ATLANTIC COAST CHAMPIONSHIP | CAMBRIDGE, Ma. (13th of 18, 388 points)
 
- A Division (16th of 18, 227 points): The Engineers finished in a tie with the boat from Jacksonville and due to a head-to-head tiebreaker, were rewarded 16th-place. Senior Dana Haig (Beach Haven, N.J.), junior Grace Mao (Overland Park, Kan.), and senior Veronika Silkin (Johnston, Iowa) sailed the boat to six top-10 finishes over the two-day race in challenging racing conditions.
 
- B Division (7th of 18, 161 points): Seniors Kaila Pfrang (Suffolk, N.Y.) and Maile Jim (Honolulu, Hawaii) guided the MIT boat to an impressive seventh-place finish as they earned nine top-10 finishes with two victories.
 

CAPTAIN HURST BOWL | HANOVER, Vt. (11th of 15, 375 points) Captain Hurst Racers
 
- A Division (11th of 15, 137 points): Senior John Ped (Portland, Ore.) and first-year Samantha Karlson (Groton, Conn.) steered their boat to nine top-10 finishes with three top-five finishes.
 
- B Division (7th of 15, 102 points): The MIT boat steered by seniors Alex Abate (Kemah, Texas) and Lulu Russell (Marion, Mass.) put together seven top-five finishes including one victory.
 
- C Division (11th of 15, 136 points): Sophomore Maks Groom (Seattle, Wash.) and junior Wendy Wu (Andover, Mass.) guided the Engineer boat to two third-place finishes with eight top-10 finishes overall.


 
SAVIN HILL INVITATIONAL | CHESTNUT HILL, Ma. (14th of 17, 242 points)

- A Division (15th of 17, 133 points): The MIT boat was commanded by sophomore Matthew Elliot (Waterford, Mich.) and first-year Shaye Bersin (Port Washington, N.Y.) who notched two top-10 finishes in the races.

- B Division (13th of 17, 109 points): First-year Garrett Blosen (San Jose, Calif.) and junior Brianna Ryan (Kapaa, Hawaii) finished the event with four top-10 finishes.

- The Engineers are back in the boats next weekend for three more races, including the Coed Atlantic Coast Championship in Annapolis, Md.
