The Lead: Junior
Evan Kowal (South Pasadena, Calif.) scored a career-high five goals as the MIT water polo team rolled past Gannon, 17-10 on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
- The teams traded goals in the first quarter as Kowal opened the scoring at 7:15. After a Gannon penalty, Kowal converted a five-meter score with 36 seconds left to give MIT a 4-3 lead after one quarter of play.

- Gannon opened the second with back-to-back goals to take a 5-4 lead, but MIT scored four unanswered to pull ahead 8-5. Senior
Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.) tied the game at 5:28 to jumpstart the MIT run.

- The Golden Knights cut the MIT lead to one with a goal at 6:50 in the third, but the Engineers got goals from first-years
Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y) and
Luke Apostolides (Greenwich, Conn.) to go back up by four.

- Two goals from Gannon to open the fourth cut the MIT lead to 13-10, but back-to-back goals from Kowal and a score from first-year
Kush Khamesra (Portland, Ore.) sealed the win for the Engineers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Kowal scored a career-high five goals to up his season total to 32. He also earned three ejections and added two assists.

- Geschke also fished with five goals to tie a season-high and bring his season total to 46 and his career total to 264. He posted a team-high five steals and four assists.

- Apostolides, Ivatorov, and Khamesra all finished with two goals for the Engineers. Sophomore
Richard Yun (Irvine, Calif.) also scored for MIT.

Colin Weaver (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made 17 saves in goal.
