HOW IT HAPPENED

- After first-year Luke Apostolides (Greenwich, Conn.) put MIT in the lead, the Jays responded with a 4-1 run to end the first eight minutes of play.

- Apostolides found the back of the net at 4:59 to get MIT to within one, but JHU scored the next two goals to go back in front, 6-3. A goal from junior Evan Kowal (South Pasadena, Calif.) with 16 seconds remaining in the half got MIT back to within two scores.

- First-year Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y.) scored at 7:05 to make it a 6-5 Hopkins lead, and Kowal tied it up at 6:41 with a five-meter goal. Ivatorov scored two more goals in the frame and Kowal added another to give the Engineers a 9-7 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

- Kowal scored again to make it a three-goal lead for MIT, however, Hopkins went on a 5-1 run to end the game and claim the DII Eastern Championship.
