The Lead:Â The MIT water polo team took a 12-9 victory over Connecticut College to earn its first NWPC win of the season, but fell to Division I Brown, 16-9, later on Saturday in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. CONN COLLEGE
Â
- MIT jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter of play with two goals each from junior
Evan Kowal (South Pasadena, Calif.) and first-year
Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y.), while sophomore
Richard Yun (Irvine, Calif.) and senior
Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.) each scored a goal in the first eight minutes of action
.

- The teams combined for just eight goals in the match's remaining three quarters. The Camels put up two goals in the second, but the Engineers' defense held them to no goals in the third and just one in the fourth.

- Geschke tallied two more goals for the hat trick, while Kowal found the back of the net for a hat trick of his own. Sophomore
Jack King (Los Altos, Calif.) picked up two goals while first-year
Vik Neni (Laguna Beach, Calif.) found the back of the net with 1:54 remaining to wrap up the scoring for MIT.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Seven different Engineers recorded a goal in the game for MIT with Geschke and Kowal leading the way with three each.

Luke Apostolides (Greenwich, Conn.) led MIT with three ejections earned, while Ivatorov had two.

Colin Weaver (Huntington Beach, Calif.) finished the match with seven saves, two assists, and two steals. Senior
Conrad Oakes (Pasadena, Calif.) made three saves in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. BROWN
Â
- The Bears took a 5-0 lead, but MIT slowly started to come back as a goal from Geschke made it a 7-5 game. The Engineers outscored Brown 4-3 in the second quarter to head into the break trailing 8-6.

- With Brown holding an 11-7 lead after a goal from Neni, the Bears went on a 5-2 run to end the game.
