The Lead:Â The MIT water polo team concluded the NWPC Tournament with a sixth-place finish as the Engineers fell to Iona by a score of 11-7 on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
- The Gales held a 4-1 lead at the 2:06 mark in the first before goals from junior
Evan Kowal (South Pasadena, Calif.) and first-year
Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y.), who took a pass from first-year
Luke Apostolides (Greenwich, Conn.) and
 cut the Iona lead to one.
Â
- Iona scored the first three goals of the second before a score from senior
Miller Geschke (Los, Altos, Calif) cut the lead to 7-4.

- First-year
Vik Neni (Laguna Beach, Calif.) got the Engineers back to within two with his goal at 5:28, but Iona responded with a score at 4:42 to go back up three before the second of the day from Ivatorov at 1:05 sent MIT into the last eight minutes trailing by two.

- After Iona made it a 9-6 contest, Kowal scored to make it 9-7, but the Gales pulled away late with two more goals and held the Engineers' offense scoreless to take the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Kowal and Ivatorov led the Engineers with two goals each in the game. Kowal also posted a team-leading three assists.

- MIT grabbed nine steals in the contest, led by three from Geschke.

- Junior
Colin Weaver (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made 13 saves and grabbed three steals.
- Gesckhe was named to the NWPC All-Tournament Second Team.

- The Engineers will head to California for the USA Water Polo Division Championships that will be held on December 3rd and 4th. The location and match-up will be announced at a later date.
