Baseball Falls to Pomona-Pitzer in 6-3 Final on Sunday

THE BASICS:
 
- Records: MIT (2-7-1); Pomona-Pitzer (16-3)
 
- Scores: Pomona-Pitzer 6, MIT 3
 
- Location: Claremont, Calif. (Alumni Field)
 
- The Lead: In the final game of the three-game series, MIT rallied from an early deficit to tie the game at 3-3 before dropping an eventual 6-3 final to Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- The Sagehens got out to a 3-0 lead after three innings with single runs in each frame, including a solo home run by David Bedrosian in the third.
 
- MIT got two runs back in the top of the fourth behind three hits, including a two-RBI single up the middle from sophomore Kennan Gumbs (New York, N.Y.) that scored junior Graham Cartwright (La Jolla, Calif.) and senior Nick Aiello (Freehold, N.J.) to make it a 3-2 game. The Engineers tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth when sophomore Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) came across as he reached on a leadoff double through the left side.
 
- Pomona-Pitzer regained the lead on a balk in the fifth and added two more runs in the eighth for the 6-3 final. Leading the hosts in that inning was Isaac Kim with a solo homer to center and an RBI single to right by Caleb Millikan that scored Ryan Nishi from second.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Sophomore Tyler Godfrey (Rowley, Mass.) led the Engineers with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while three Sagehens finished with two hits each.
 
- MIT senior Jonah Scott (Oak Park, Ill.) went 3.1 innings in the start and scattered five hits with three runs in the no-decision. Junior Matthew Nay (Roswell, Ga.) took the loss to fall to 0-1, while Jake Hilton moved to 2-0 with the win for Pomona-Pitzer and Eamonn Woods earned his third save of the year.

- MIT returns to action on Tuesday, March 22nd as the Engineers travel to No. 21 Chapman University for a 7 p.m. start in Orange, Calif.
