Delaney Goetz (Rockville, Md.) paced the Engineers with five points as she tallied one goal and four assists.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- A goal by Goetz just 1:42 into the game sparked a 4-0 run for MIT. Sophomore
Meredith Arterburn (Cooksville, Md.) followed with an unassisted marker while first-year
Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) buried a free-position shot 15 seconds later. Goetz earned her first assist when junior
Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) found the back of the net at the 8:29 mark. The game remained scoreless until Skidmore broke through with 55 seconds left in the quarter.
Â
- The Thoroughbreds narrowed the gap to 4-2 early in the second stanza, however, the Engineers replied with five unanswered goals. First-year
Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored back-to-back goals as senior
Naomi Lutz (Northbrook, Ill.) recorded a goal and an assist during the spurt. Skidmore provided the final goal of the quarter with just under four minutes remaining, making the score 9-3 at halftime.
Â
- Junior
Emma Tauckus (Manhasset, N.Y.) set up Flusche for an extra-player goal after 2:46 elapsed in the third quarter. The Thoroughbreds countered with two quick goals, trimming the deficit to 10-5 with 10:20 on the clock. MIT replied with three goals during the next four minutes. Junior
Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) and Rabenold both scored on feeds from Goetz while Pyon converted another free-position attempt. Skidmore tacked on two more goals, ending the frame trailing 13-7.
Â
- The Thoroughbreds carried the momentum into the fourth quarter as they recorded four unanswered goals, the last coming with 1:03 left to play. Sophomore
Nora Donnelly (Ridgewood, N.J.) collected the ensuing draw control, helping the Engineers hold on for the victory. Skidmore controlled the action as it had an 11-3 advantage in shots and an 8-2 margin in shots on goal during the final 15 minutes.
