Quick Start Propels MIT to 21-3 Victory Over Emerson

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 21, Emerson College 3

- Records: MIT (4-4, 2-1 NEWMAC); Emerson (6-2, 1-2 NEWMAC)

- Location: Boston, Mass. (Rotch Field)

- The Lead: MIT raced out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back as it went on to record a 21-3 victory over Emerson College in a NEWMAC women's lacrosse game on Friday night. First-year Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) powered the Engineers with five goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Junior Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) opened the scoring after 1:06 elapsed and then Flusche rattled off three straight goals. Senior Naomi Lutz (Northbrook, Ill.) found the back of the net and 23 seconds later earned an assist on Rabenold's strike. Sophomore Makena Armstrong (San Diego, Calif.) set up junior Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) for back-to-back goals, resulting in an 8-0 lead at the 7:20 mark. Less than a minute later, Emerson got on the scoreboard, however, juniors Emma Tauckus (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Grace Ann Carlson (Daniel Island, S.C.) provided the final goals of the quarter.

- MIT outscored the Lions, 3-1, in the second and third quarters, increasing its advantage to 16-3. Rabenold scored in both frames, as her second came with a player advantage.

- The Engineers controlled the action in the fourth quarter as they recorded five unanswered goals.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Rabenold finished with four goals and three draw controls while Lutz posted two goals, two assists, and two draw controls. Gambino registered a hat trick as first-year Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) totaled two goals and four groundballs. Sophomore Nora Donnelly (Ridgewood, N.J.) chipped in three draw controls as first-year Katie Hall (New York, N.Y.) produced four groundballs and two draw controls.

- In net, senior Kiely Smiga-McManus (Etna, N.H.) made two saves in the first half while sophomore Grace Harrington (Seattle, Wash.) turned away one shot in the second half.
