The Lead: A three-goal run in the second quarter, including two during the last 58 seconds, created enough of a cushion as MIT went on to defeat Framingham State, 17-10, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Wednesday night. Junior
Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) powered the Engineers with a career-high five goals to go along with two assists for a career-high seven points.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- Framingham State got on the scoreboard first, however, MIT rattled off four straight goals. Junior
Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned assists on goals by Gambino and first-year
Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) while first-year
Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) followed with back-to-back goals, the second coming on a pass from junior
Delaney Goetz (Rockville, Md.). The Rams made the score 4-2 at the 6:04 mark but the Engineers replied with strikes from Pyon and Gambino. Framingham State countered with a goal with 38 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Â
- The Rams carried the momentum into the second stanza as they narrowed the gap to 6-5 with 9:57 on the clock. Over three minutes later, Rabenold redirected a feed from Gambino. A solo effort from Rabenold with 58 seconds remaining followed by a blast by Gambino that was set up by sophomore
Katie Bell (Radnor, Pa.) with six ticks left resulted in an 9-5 lead at halftime.
Â
- MIT gradually pulled away in the third quarter as sophomore
Nora Donnelly (Ridgewood, N.J.) converted a free-position shot after 1:50 elapsed. A defensive battle ensued until Pyon connected on a pass from Rabenold at the 6:04 mark. Framingham State registered quick back-to-back goals, trimming its deficit to 11-7 with 2:23 on the clock. Sophomore
Meredith Arterburn (Cooksville, Md.) responded with a goal of her own to cap the scoring.
Â
- Following an exchange of goals that moved the score to 13-9 almost six minutes into the fourth quarter, the Engineers put together a 4-1 run to close out the game. Gambino and Flusche both accounted for two goals while Gambino also earned an assist.
