The Lead: MIT opened the game with 16 unanswered goals before going on to record a 24-3 victory over Clark University in NEWMAC women's lacrosse action on Saturday night. Junior
Delaney Goetz (Rockville, Md.) dished out a career-high eight assists, just two shy of tying the program record for assists in a game.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- First-year
Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) found the back of the net after 2:31 elapsed in the first quarter, sparking an 8-0 run during the frame. Along with junior
Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio), the duo was a factor in five goals as they both had two goals and an assist. Junior
Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) scored twice, the second on a free-position attempt, while first-year
Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) buried a solo effort early in the run.
Â
- MIT recorded six goals in the second stanza, increasing its advantage to 14-0. Rabenold and junior
Emma Tauckus (Manhasset, N.Y.) both contributed a goal and an assist while Goetz earned assists on strikes by Gambino and senior
Naomi Lutz (Northbrook, Ill.).
Â
- In the third quarter, Pyon corralled the opening draw and immediately scored. Exactly 3:30 later, Lutz connected on a feed from Goetz to make the score 16-0. Clark ended the shutout at the 8:07 mark, but Gambino scored twice during the last six minutes of the period.
Â
- The Engineers outscored the Cougars, 6-2, in the fourth quarter as Goetz assisted on four goals. Tauckus recorded an unassisted blast while first-year
Sydney Hawkins (Franklin, Mass.) capped the scoring when she converted her free-position attempt, resulting in her first intercollegiate marker.
Â
