Cambridge, Mass. (May 23) – Seven MIT student-athletes have been named to the 2021-22 Academic All-America At-Large All-District as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Women's swimming and diving produced three honorees led by two-time honorees in senior
Laura Rosado (New Haven, Conn.) and junior
Edenna Chen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) while senior
Lindsey Bjornstad (Mequon, Wis.) earns her first honor. Men's swimming and diving placed three first-timers on the list with senior
Kyri Chen (Naperville, Ill.), junior
Adam Janicki (Falls Church, Va.), and sophomore
Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.) while graduate student
Ryan Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) of the men's lacrosse team earned his second all-district honor. Â

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District, the student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, be a sophomore or above and be a starter or significant reserve on their respective team. The seven will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot with the Academic All-America At-Large teams scheduled to be announced on June 15. The At-Large programs include athletes from the following sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.

Rosado, a mechanical engineering major with a 3.92 GPA is a team captain and earned All-America honors at the 2021-22 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship as a member of the 800-Freestyle Relay. Overall she has amassed eight All-America honors and 10 NEWMAC Championships. She is a member of the Baker House Executive Council and a resident peer mentor and has interned at Lockheed Martin.

Chen became the first individual National Champion for the women's team in almost 30 years as she won the 100-breast at the NCAA Championships while collecting seven AA honors at the championships. The electrical engineering and computer science major boasts a 3.76 GPA and set six MIT records during the 2021-22 season. She is a member of the Air Force ROTC and has done research at the Kavil Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research.

Bjornstad has a 3.92 GPA with a major in aerospace engineering and collected four All-America honors at the NCAA Championships and set two school and NEWMAC records this season. Overall she has 10 All-America honors and 11 NEWMAC Championships in her career. She had an engineering internship at the Northrop Grumman Corporation and has developed an autonomous race car. She is a member of the MIT Engineering leadership program and is the President of SHINE for Girls which is a creativity and math tutoring group for girls and non-binary individuals in the area.

Chen capped his senior year with two National Championships and five All-America honors at this year's championships. He has a 3.92 GPA as a mathematics and computer science major and has had internships at Starkiller Capital, Citadel LLC, Pegasystems, and Mellon Investment Corporation. He is also the Chi Phi fraternity secretary and an orientation leader.

Janicki, a computer science and engineering major with a 3.92 GPA grabbed five All-America honors and a National Championship in the 200-Free relay at the 2021-22 Championships Janicki built a movie and TV show review site and is an amphibious achievement volunteer and also coaches swimming and tutors low-income high school students. He has been a lab assistant for software construction and Intro. to Python and has also interned for the Capital Technology Group.

Obochi won three NCAA Championship titles and was named the NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year. Overall at NCAA's the sophomore took home seven All-America honors. At the NEWMAC Championships, he won six titles and set five school and NEWMAC Open records. Obochi has had internships at Tolmat and the Clinton Foundation and was a Google Summer Institute Participant.

Gebhardt, who was an At-Large First Team member last season, set the NCAA Lacrosse goal record this year as he amassed 300 in his career and scored an MIT record of 91 goals this season. This season, the NEWMAC Athlete of the Year helped the Engineers to a 17-1 record and the program's first NEWMAC Tournament Championship. Gebhardt is pursuing his graduate degree in finance and has had internships with IceBuilders Inc. and ListenFirst Media.
