Sport Shorts Spotlight: Track and Field Shines at 2026 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships
The MIT track and field teams delivered a powerhouse performance at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, highlighted by Rujuta Sane capturing the national title in the 5,000m with a time of 16:45.22. The women’s team secured an impressive 8th-place overall finish out of 61 teams, bolstered by a program-record performance in the 4x400m relay and All-America honors from Hailey Surace and Katelyn Howard in the pole vault and Sane and Kate Sanderson in the 3,000m and 5,000m. On the men’s side, the Distance Medley Relay team of Tim Neumann, Davis Lee, David Whitaker, and Jared Steins led the way with a fourth-place finish, clocking the second-fastest time in program history at 9:46.36. Additional All-America second-team accolades were earned by Anthony Meng in the high jump and Tim Neumann in the 3,000m, helping the men’s team finish 33rd overall. In total, the Engineers combined for multiple podium appearances and broken records across the two-day event at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Both squads now look ahead to the outdoor season, which kicks off in late March at the Raleigh Relays.
