The Lead:Â The MIT water polo team saw two fourth-quarter rallies fall short as the Engineers dropped the first two games of the season to Wagner and Fordham on day one of the Bruno Classic hosted by Harvard University.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE vs. Wagner:
- Senior
Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.) brought MIT to within one goal with his score at 1:19, but Wagner responded with two scores in the last 34 seconds to take a 6-3 lead.

- Wagner continued its scoring run to pull ahead 11-3 before a goal from junior
Evan Kowal (South Pasadena, Calif.) ended the run.
Â
- Trailing 16-6 entering the final five minutes of play, the Engineers strung together three-straight goals, but the rally fell short as Wagner held on for the 17-9Â win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- First-year
Luke Apostolides (Greenwich, Conn.) led the way with three scores, all coming in the fourth quarter.

- Sophomore
Jack King (Los Altos, Calif.) led the Engineers with three assists in the game, and sophomore
Richard Yun (Irvine, Calif.) posted a team-best three steals.
Â
- Junior
Colin Weaver (Huntington Beach, Calif.) finished with six saves and a steal in net, and senior
Conrad Oakes (Pasadena, Calif.) turned away five Wagner shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO vs. Fordham:
- Fordham took 3-1 in the first quarter, but a goal from Geschke at 2:39 brought the Engineers to within one.

- A 9-0 Rams' run made it a 10-goal game, but the Engineers slowly began to respond as first-year
Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, NY) ended the Fordham run with a goal at 2:22 in the third. Fordham added another goal at 1:41 put the Rams back up 10.

- Apostolides started a 4-0 Engineers run in the fourth to get MIT back to within single-digits at 13-7. The rally fell short as another Rams goal at 1:21 sealed the 14-7 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Geschke led the team with three goals and three steals in the game.

- Ivatorov finished with two scores and two steals.
Â
- Apostolides and Kowal each tallied a goal in the contest.
Â
- Weaver posted 10 saves in the contest and Oakes added 10 saves to go along with an assist and steal.
