The Lead: The MIT women's basketball team outscored Colby College, 21-8, in the third quarter before going on to capture a 65-52 victory in non-conference action on Tuesday. First year
Alice Hall (Ambler, Pa.) tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, three assists, and two steals for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After a back-and-forth start to the game, a three-pointer by sophomore
Sarah Berman (York, Pa.) kicked off an 8-2 spurt that gave MIT a 19-13 lead at the end of the quarter.

- The Engineers gradually increased their advantage to 29-18 following a layup by sophomore
Kamsi Nwogu (Algonquin, Ill.) midway through the second stanza. Colby countered with a 10-3 run which brough it within 32-28 at halftime.

- The White Mules stayed within striking distance as it narrowed the gap to six on two occasions, the last 38-32 with 6:14 on the clock. MIT responded with a jumper from Berman which sparked a 15-4 run and resulted in a 53-36 lead at the end of the third quarter.

- The Engineers extended their margin to 59-39 courtesy of a layup by Choi with 6:28 left to play. MIT maintained its comfortable cushion down the stretch as Colby closed out the game with back-to-back treys for a 65-52 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Choi paced the Engineers with 18 points followed by 15 from Nwogu. Sophomore
Olivia Joseph (Newtown Square, Pa.) recorded 10 points and eight rebounds while first-year
Brianna Lebrun (Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore
Elise Harvey (Wayland, Mass.) both grabbed eight rebounds. Graduate student
Paula Pieper (Greenville, S.C.) dished out four assists as first year
Kaya Weiser (Villanova, Pa.) registered three assists.

- MIT led the way in rebounds (48-31), points in the paint (26-14), and second-chance points (10-0) but the White Mules ended the night with an advantage in bench scoring (19-15). Both teams generated eight points off turnovers.

- The Engineers shot 40 percent (26-of-65) from the floor, 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from three-point range, and 80 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line.

- Colby shot 27 percent (17-of-63) from the floor, 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from behind the arc, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) at the charity stripe.
