Men's Fencing Captures NEIFC Championship

THE BASICS:

- Event: New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Championship

- Results: 1st of 14

- Location: Wellesley, Mass. (Wellesley College)

- The Lead: For the 27th time in program history and the first since 2020, the MIT men's fencing captured the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference (NEIFC) Championship on Saturday at Wellesley College. The sabre team claimed first place with a 35-4 ledger, helping it secure the Silvio Vitale Cup, which goes to the squad with the highest winning percentage. This marks the third straight NEIFC competition the Engineers have won the Vitale Cup as the foil team earned it last year and the epee team was the recipient in 2020. Sophomore Wilson Zhu (Diamond Bar, Calif.) repeated as the epee champion while first year Surya Sakhamuri (Sharon, Mass.) claimed the individual sabre title. First year Niles Liu (Bedford, Mass.) led the way for the foil contingent as he tied for third place.
