- The Lead: Over the weekend, the No. 8 ranked MIT women's track and field team finished third overall at the New England Division III Championship as the Engineers finished the two-day event with a total of 89.50 points. The team was led by a pair of individual championships from sophomore
Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) as she won both the shot put and weight throw, including a school-record mark in the shot.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON FRIDAY:

- In the 5,000 meters, first-year
Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) beat her previous PR by nearly five seconds as she finished in third with a time of 17:09.31 that tentatively ranks No. 15 in the country. Senior
Anna Haddad (Tacoma, Wash.) finished fifth at 17:33 and was followed in seventh by junior
Archana Mohandas (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) with a time of 17:36.24 as MIT scored 12 points in the event.

Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) finished sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 11 feet, 10.75 inches on her final attempt at the height. In the long jump, junior
Emma Martin (North Andover, Mass.) placed seventh as she jumped 17 feet, 7.5 inches on her fifth attempt.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON FRIDAY:

- Boykin shattered her own record in the shot put, is ranked seventh in the country and earned the win as she posted a throw of 47 feet, 7.25 inches. She also won the weight throw as posted a throw of 58 feet, three inches. Sophomore
Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) also scored in both events, finishing fourth in the weight throw at 51 feet, 11 inches and seventh in the shot at 37 feet, 10 inches.

Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash.) charged in the last quarter to finish in second in the mile at 5:01.62, followed in fifth by junior
Gillian Roeder (Delmar, N.Y.) with a time of 5:05.40.

- In one of the most exciting races of the day, junior
Julia Howarth (Barrington, R.I.) came up just .01 seconds shy in a battle at the finish of the 800 meters as she was second overall with a time of 2:13.38. This time also ranks No. 16 in the country. Roeder scored in fifth at 2:17.74, along with an eighth-place performance by first-year
Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.) in 2:19.60.

- The 4x400 team of junior
Madeline Hon (Manhasset, N.Y.), Crow, Montgomery and Howarth earned 10 points as that group finished at 3:56.28. The Engineers also had three scorers in the 400 as first-year
Shreya Kalyan (Troy, Mich.), sophomore
Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.) and Hon combined for six points. Kalyan was sixth at 58.52, along with Miller in 58.86 seconds and Hon at 59.17.

Tolu Akinbo (Naperville, Ill.) tying for seventh in the high jump with a clearance of five feet, one inch and senior
Laena Tieng (Kent, Wash.) placing eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 7.5 inches.
